Recently, I had the unfortunate opportunity to speak to some neighbors about loud shouting coming from their apartment. I had heard these shouts at least 4 times before and had chalked it up to couples fighting. Well this time, I had to go say something.

The shouting was so loud I could not work. As you know, I coach single moms and so I need to be able to hear. So, I said I’m going to call the office, the cops, or go up myself. I decided to go up myself and cautiously…and nicely approach them.

The guy answers and he is absolutely opposite of the shouting I had previously heard. I introduced myself and asked if all was okay. I questioned how his wife was doing and if they had kids. I wanted to know this so I could make sure they were safe. I know most people shy away from situations like this and say it’s none of their business. As a Christian, I just couldn’t deal with what if someone was being hurt. Turns out they don’t have kids and they were just arguing. Trust me. You are doing some shouting when the person below you can hear it.

Let me tell you that this scenario prompted a Periscope. You can watch it here. My advice is to make sure to check on people who you think are in abusive situations. Especially if children are involved, do something. I hope that no one reading this blog allows herself to stay in a relationship where she is undervalued and mistreated. As you will see in the video, real love does not hurt, degrade, or tear down.

I urge you to love you enough to let go of anything that does not honor you and to step in and help other women and children when you know they are being abused. Be sure and proceed with caution.

As always, you can have your best life. You have to see it and demand it.
