Single parenting is tough. But, you know that. And you know what else? You got this! You and the rest of us single moms are able to wear the many hats that parenting alone requires and we do it with a smile. Sure, it’s rough here and there, but you were built for this season. Please know it is simply a season. One you must push to excel in.

Let your strength shine through every minute. Run your family like the Rock Star you are! Really! You rock because you single-handedly are making the world go round for your babies. That deserves a Woo hoo! and a You go girl! Believe me.

As I’ve been preparing for 2016 and all the awesomeness I want to bring to the table for single moms like you and me, I decided it was time to choose my word.  “One Word for 2016,” you say? Yes, chile! One word.

The Backstory

About 15 years ago, I started naming my years with a girlfriend of mine. At first they were silly names, but as I grew and learned the power of setting my vision and being intentional, my life changed. This girlfriend and I grew up together and so one year after bad dating experiences one after the other, we named it “The Year of Weirdos.” Lol! I told ya. Wasn’t always stellar naming.

But this year was different. I named it “The Year of Dream Realization.” Oh boy was it! See, I was committed to changing my life and that of my readers. I wanted to blog more, go to more conferences, create my coaching business, inspire women, and publish my book. I’m super proud to say I did it all! Yay! (Does the Dougie for the millionth time. Really. I have been dancing since December 4th.) Most importantly (if there could be something better than helping others) my boys got to see what hard work and pushing for your dreams looks like.

(P.S. You know I’m a full-time teacher, Single Mom COACH, student, parent, entrepreneur, etc. Right?)

People ask how I do it. I say “How don’t you?”  When you wake up to the possibilities of life, to the call of purpose on your life, you will find the time for what matters, too!

This is why I wrote the book. I don’t want any mama sitting on the sidelines of her life thinking “This is it.” No ma’am. It’s not. You have so much more to give, do, and be! You just have to change your mindset. Do It Anyway! The Single Mom’s Guide to Living Life and Achieving Her Goals is the book for you if you want to know how to heal from the pain of parenting alone (if you’re still mad at your ex, you aren’t healed), how to find and chase your purpose, how to date and find love, how to reconnect with your kids, how to get organized and focused, and so much more.  All it takes is you moving forward!

When the Rain Falls, Grow

Now, I haven’t had the perfect life by any means. I’ve had some hellish years and in the book you’ll see that. But, I refuse to lose. 2015 also brought me a lot of pain. My nephew passed unexpectedly in a drowning accident. And, can I be honest? That almost took me out! I wasn’t ready to stop living, but I was ready to lose it and sit in a corner somewhere. I mean I was ready to throw my hands up and just stop. But, I had my boys. I had dreams, goals, purpose, people depending on me. I had to keep going.

To lose a loved one is heart-breaking. To lose a child is crushing. But, I saw his mom my sister keep going. She kept giving God praise and that is the power of having a real relationship with God.

(Listen, I will shout in this blog post. Amen!)

So, I decided after 3 days of despair to talk to God myself instead of questioning why. And that began my road back to “I’m gonna keep pushing to fulfill my purpose.” Listen, that affected my boys. Chris was their best friend. He was such a lover of life that lil boy. And that is what I chose to take with me- to keep living and to keep loving.

Sis, what has happened to you that tried to stop you from living but you kept going? We all have a valley. Walk through it, but don’t give up.

I don’t want you to think we’re healed in that area of grief, but we are moving and trusting God. And when the tears come, we let them fall. As Christians, we know he’s with God and that helps to ease the pain.

How to Rise in 2016

Now, I want to get back to my question.

Use it to your advantage and that of your kids! Rise up and show 2016 what you’re made of. Let it be the year you live!

For GoalSetting 101 read this post and grab a free template.

If you’ll take the time to name your year, set your goals, revisit them, and really work the, you’ll see a change in you and your life. I did. The way to rise is to push forward. The longer you stay still, stuck, or in the past, you aren’t moving. Movement is where you life is. Go get it! Rise! Push!

My One Word

For me, 2016 will be the Year of Crushing It! Yes, my word is two-part. I don’t know about you, but I’m tired of playing small with my gifts and playing nice with the greatness inside me in an attempt to make other folks (men and women) comfortable. Well, get ready to be even more mad because I’m coming for the vision I see. How about you? Have you gotten mad enough at your current state to do something about it?

Oh yes, this post is not just about me. I want to know how you are going to rise up in 2016, so your children can call you blessed, hard-working, and say “my mom raised us alone but, she did it anyway,” etc. One thing is for sure, it won’t be easy. The other thing that is sure is you are capable, worthy, and ready. Go on sis!

Do It Anyway!
